Dr. Janice Barry from the University of Manitoba discussed the ways in which the Canadian planning system fails to engage with indigenous communities, and how urban planners continue to hear rather than listen to Indigenous peoples on matters of land-use planning.

The together design lab team was joined by +city lab in Eabametoong First Nation for a series of housing workshops from October 24-27, 2017. These workshops, part of Visioning Our Future Dwelling Together, look to engage community members of all ages in designing the communities next set of houses to be built in summer 2018.

together design lab is excited to congratulate Nibinamik First Nation and Wakahegun 241 on the signing of a Band Council Resolution today supporting the adoption of the Nibinamik Housing Policy and officially recognizing Wakahegun 241 as the implementing body of this policy.
​
It has been a great honour to work with all community members, and other project partners in the creation of this housing policy. Creating the Nibinamik Housing Policy would not have been possible without all of the sharing of values, goals and aspirations by the more than 100 community member participants in this project.

Lab Launch & Sharing Session

This will be the first monthly sharing night. These evenings will bring together people from across our lab and the various projects to share ideas, thoughts and conversation. As well, these events will introduce different aspects of the wider Ryerson Planning community to specific elements of our lab.
This being the first event we will be launching the new lab, its website and giving an introduction to the types of projects it is undertaking. Special focus in this particular session will be the Nibinamik Housing Policy.
