FEDTalk: Building Together

FEDTalk: Building Together

Monday February 12, 2018  |  Ottawa

On February 8, Dr. McCartney spoke in Ottawa, at the invitation of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, on the importance of community decided housing evaluation metrics.

The talk and following discussion with INAC, StatCan and Public Health focused on the need to begin to reconsider on how housing is measured. Housing evaluation metrics are used to inform policy and funding decisions. However, the standardization of such metrics means that a community's needs and issues are obscured and misunderstood. By working with First Nation communities to establish their own evaluation framework, we can begin shifting the power in the establishment of these methodologies to alter housing systems, impact built form and lived experience.
